ABOUT US
We are a new lab (launched Oct 2021) dedicated to studying the genetic basis of type 1 diabetes, mainly through computational analysis.
We are currently conducting two large genetic studies of type 1 diabetes in Israel in collaboration with several large Israeli medical centers. We apply cutting-edge sequencing technologies to gain high-coverage phased whole-genomes. We then utilize advanced bioinformatic methods to identify genetic variants with large effects on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes. In addition, we are initiating a study of type 1 diabetes in the 500,000 genomes of the UK Biobank.
Danny Zeevi, PhD
Dr. Danny Zeevi received his Ph.D. in genetics from the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he studied genome regulation and specialized in building automated robotic systems for high throughput cloning and genetic engineering. He then conducted his postdoctoral research in human genetics at Princeton University and at UCLA, where he researched the genetic basis of complex traits in humans. Dr. Zeevi is currently the chair of the Department of Biotechnology at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem, where he studies the genetic basis of type 1 diabetes. In addition, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Zeevi has been leading a team of scientists dedicated to improving COVID-19 testing in Israel. The methods they have developed are currently in wide use in Israel and elsewhere.
